Running for Charity
September 08 Media Release
Running for a good cause.
A record 25,300 people participated in the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival in Sydney last weekend to raise more than $1.3 million for charity. Dr Serina Ma, dentist from the Sydney Dental Implants practice, part of the Dental Care Network, participated in the half marathon running 42kms in summer like conditions.
Dr Ma said that ‘Not only did participants have the unique opportunity to run past iconic Sydney land marks such as the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, but many people took the opportunity to help raise much needed funds for various groups like the Cancer Council, Heart Foundation and Osteoporosis Australia’.
‘It was a personal goal to complete my first half marathon in under 2 hours without walking, I just managed to scrape through completing the race in 1 hour and 58 minutes’.
‘At the same time I was running to help raise money and awareness for a good cause’.
‘Due to generous donations from Dental Care Network, Downhole Surveyors, family and friends, I was able to raise $2230.00 for the New South Wales Cancer Council’. Serina said.
This year approximately 30,000 people in NSW will learn that they have cancer. These fundraising activities help to significantly assist The Cancer Council to continue its efforts with research, patient support and cancer education.
